Monstera is a series of photographs of a body swimming in cold water. Personally, it is a part of the journey of my self-realisation and the negotiations I make with a society that is obsessed with physical appearance. It is also a big part of replacing my gendered conditioning of shame and insecurities attached to my body with a deep appreciation of the capabilities and beauty of the human body, within and beyond physical appearance. This series intends to raise questions on the value we choose to put on aesthetics rather than substance and the lack of acknowledgement of one’s own body as a means to experience the world in varied forms.
